The TQM and CQI movements changed the way that businesses viewed product development by showing that a customer focus enabled by some key tools such as House of Quality and the Pugh method could reduce flow time and increase profits.

Unfortunately, as demonstrated in the previous sentence, the language of quality improvement soon became full of terms for which the lay person could only guess meanings. Consensus Technology believes that the terminology of decision making should be neither a barrier to group understanding of process, nor a way to secure respect. We attempt to avoid labels and approaches that require participants to be up on the lingo.

At times, the use of the unique language of decision making is the best approach. Therefore, we provide the following terminology primer. This is not intended to be a complete list but merely an introduction and demystifier so you can relate the Consensus Technology plain talk to the lingo of others .
